Scythe vs Expeditions: Clash head-to-head on a tight map in a race to victory!
Duel of Meloch is a standalone game that combines mechanisms from two existing games, Scythe and Expeditions, into a 45-minute head-to-head clash. One player uses Scythe rules and components (including a new faction and player mat); the other player uses Expedition rules and components (including a new mech, character, and companion). As long as you know one of those games and your opponent knows the other, you can play Duel of Meloch, and you don't need anything other than Duel of Meloch to play this game.
The duel takes place in a tight space on a new double-sided map — only 10 locations and 2 lakes — in a race to 4 stars on a new double-sided Triumph Track, so every turn is crucial. The devious Meloch keeps the game close by giving a small boost to your opponent every time you place a star.
Gameplay Overview
Duel of Meloch is one of the most imaginative head-to-head designs in recent memory — a standalone game from Jamey Stegmaier that pits two of Stonemaier's most beloved games directly against each other. One player brings Scythe's worker placement and mech-driven faction tactics to the table; the other brings Expeditions' card-driven exploration and corruption mechanics. Neither player needs to know both games — only their own side — but the asymmetry creates a genuinely fascinating strategic clash as two completely different systems compete on the same compact 10-location map. The Meloch catch-up mechanic ensures games stay tense by giving a small boost to the trailing player each time their opponent scores, preventing runaway victories. Designed by Jamey Stegmaier with Jakub Rozalski's iconic 1920+ artwork throughout, it also serves as the final expansion in the Expeditions universe — a fitting, distinctive send-off for that world. Includes a full solo Automa mode and compatibility with existing Scythe and Expeditions components.
