Gameplay Overview
King of Tokyo: Godzilla is the moment fans of both the classic dice game and the Godzilla franchise have been waiting for — the first official Toho-licensed edition of Richard Garfield's beloved monster-brawl game. Players take turns rolling six custom wooden dice up to three times, keeping or rerolling to maximize their strategy: score victory points, collect energy to buy power cards, heal up, or unleash attacks on every monster standing outside (or inside) Tokyo. The monster currently occupying Tokyo attacks everyone else, but also can't heal — making the classic "when to grab and when to flee" tension central to every round. This edition introduces Event cards as a new mechanic, triggering effects that shake up the game state for all players simultaneously, adding a fresh layer of chaos alongside the existing Power Up system. Each of the six legendary Toho kaiju comes with their own Evolution card deck, giving monster-specific upgrades for players who want deeper asymmetry. Gorgeous Showa-era (1954-1975) comic-style artwork throughout, bilingual Japanese and English text on all components, and wooden dice, energy tokens, and monster standees make this the most distinctive King of Tokyo edition yet.
