Gameplay Overview
Splendor Duel is the Spiel des Jahres 2023 winner — a purpose-built two-player game from the designers of the original Splendor, Bruno Cathala and Marc André, that takes the gem-collecting engine of the original and redesigns it from the ground up for head-to-head play. Players take turns drawing tokens from a shared board of 25 gems and pearls, using them to purchase Jewel cards that build permanent bonus gem income and push toward one of three distinct victory conditions: reach 20 prestige points, collect 10 prestige points' worth of cards in a single color, or claim 6 Royal cards. The three-path victory structure means no two games feel the same, and the tension of watching your opponent's engine develop while managing your own creates an intensely satisfying duel. Privilege scrolls add a clever catch-up mechanic, and the whole game clips along in 30 minutes. One of the best two-player games in the hobby at any price point.
