Step off of dry land and into Tacklebox, a surreal fishing roleplaying game where reality shifts with every card. Designer J. Walton and surrealist author James Tadd Adcox wrote its 40 roleplaying prompts, and you can play it as a two-player storytelling game or a competitive party game. The card prompts change the nature of reality around you. Each time you draw a card, you keep the prompt to yourself and act out its strange change in circumstances for your fishing partner. Prompts can stay secret for the whole game, be played strategically to steer the story, or be revealed when someone guesses them to earn points. Just choose your rules, grab your cards, and cast your line into the unknown! It’s illustrated by Patrick Edell.
What’s Inside: Tacklebox turns a quiet day on the water into something wonderfully strange. You and your fishing partner sit in the boat while the world keeps changing around you, and each secret card asks you to act as though something about reality is now different. Your partner has to play along, react, and maybe figure out what’s going on. In the storytelling version, it’s a dreamy, improvisational conversation for two. In the party version, it becomes a guessing game where cleverly hinting at your prompt, or spotting someone else’s, earns points. It’s a small, affordable deck with no prep and no game master, and it’s a great pick for creative friends, couples, and anyone curious to try storytelling games for the first time.
