Welcome, travelers, to the Japanese island of Shikoku! Tokaido Duo is a standalone game inspired by Tokaido but featuring completely new mechanisms. 1-2 players use a quick dice draft each turn to steer three unique characters on different tracks around the smallest of Japan's main islands. As the pilgrim, visit shrines, gardens, seashores, and hot springs. As the merchant, collect and sell traditional souvenirs. As the artist, paint a variety of beautiful vistas, and gift your paintings to locals. Gain points through each character's discoveries as you race to complete one of their jobs while enjoying the journey.

Gameplay Overview

Tokaido Duo takes the serene spirit of the beloved Tokaido series and reimagines it as a compact, elegant solo or two-player experience. Each turn you draft dice to move your three characters — pilgrim, merchant, and artist — along separate paths across Shikoku, each pursuing their own distinct goals. The clever tension comes from sharing a dice pool with your opponent while juggling three very different agendas simultaneously. With a 3-minute setup, a 20-30 minute play time, and a light footprint, it's a wonderful game for a quiet evening or a relaxed lunch break. The Stonemaier Games edition adds character guides for easy reference and a full Automa solo mode, making it just as satisfying to play alone as it is with a partner.
