Ancient Terrible Things: Reawakened is a casual, press-your-luck board game of pulp horror adventure for 1 to 4 players, ages 13 and up. You play the role of an intrepid adventurer exploring a dark jungle river for forgotten secrets. Each turn, you will travel to a Fateful Location and attempt to overcome an Ominous Encounter there, using a combination of rolled dice, tokens and cards. Succeed and you add the Encounter to your Secrets score pile. Fail and you advance the expedition towards The Inexplicable Event. The adventurer with the most Secrets at the end is declared the sole survivor of that doomed expedition.
Ancient Terrible Things: Reawakened is the third implementation of the Dicequest game system, incorporating edited and revised content from all previous iterations and expansions of Ancient Terrible Things into a single definitive edition with renovated art and language-independent graphic design.
Gameplay Overview
Ancient Terrible Things: Reawakened is a pulpy, press-your-luck dice game dripping with Lovecraftian jungle atmosphere. Each turn, players travel to one of five Fateful Locations along a dark river and roll a colorful fistful of dice to overcome the Ominous Encounter waiting there — spending results on combinations of Focus, Mystery, Treasure, and Feat tokens that power your cards and abilities. Succeed and claim Secrets toward victory; fail and the expedition creeps closer to The Inexplicable Event that ends the game. The Swag card system lets you permanently upgrade your adventurer with useful equipment, while one-shot Feat cards provide clutch moments in tight situations. With seven distinct dice types and a generous component set, it plays equally well solo or with a full table, and the pulp horror aesthetic — tentacles, jungle ruins, madness tokens — is baked into every card and encounter. The definitive edition of a beloved game system.
