Once there was a young adventurer who rescued a mighty Djinn trapped in the heart of a swamp. Together, they built the magical city of Cardia.
Today, life in the city is flourishing. Yet four factions are struggling for power: the Rebellion from the swamp, the scholars from the Academy, the Guild with their mechanical contraptions, and the Dynasty, descendants of the adventurer.
Whoever wins the powerful signet rings, and thus the favour of the factions, becomes the next ruler of Cardia. Play your cards right and outsmart your opponent!
Gameplay Overview
Duel for Cardia is a fast, clever card game from Hans im Glück set in a richly imagined magical city built by an adventurer and a Djinn. Players choose one of two asymmetric decks and compete to claim signet rings — the tokens of faction favor that determine Cardia's next ruler. Each deck contains 16 unique cards numbered 1-16, and eight scenery cards shape the contested spaces between players. The asymmetry between the two decks gives each side a distinct feel and strategic identity, while the influence token system creates meaningful decisions around when to push for rings and when to hold back. At $16.99 and under 15 minutes, it's an exceptionally well-priced two-player experience with a compelling fantasy setting and enough tactical depth to reward repeated play. A natural pick for two-player households looking for a quick, thematic head-to-head game.
